Byers' Choice CarolersStorage and Care for Your Carolers
The perfect box to store your carolers is the carton we receive our carolers in from the factory. At Wayside we have named these boxes “Byers’ Choice Condo Boxes”. If you are unable to obtain these, wine boxes from your local liquor store are excellent as well. If you do not have the space for boxes, wrap each one in tissue and lay them carefully in a chest or dry place. Old sheets cut up make excellent wraps as well.
We do not recommend storing them in plastics bags. If there is any moisture that gets in the bag you are sure to have problems. If they do become wet, take out the present tissue under the ladies dress. Blot the Caroler dry, then finish drying them with a hair dryer. Always store them in a dry area. Heat or cold does not effect them whatsoever.

Do not store with cedar chips, as sometimes the chips will damage the paint on their face. Be aware that the tissue and fur are enticing for those pesky mice. They like to use it for building their own little homes. If you have problems with mice or moths eating the wool we recommend using a small amount of mothballs or some type of moth repellant.
Much to our dismay, dogs and cats have fun playing with Carolers. Many a Caroler has quickly become just a pile of paper, wire, and cloth due to the FUN the pets are having. Please keep the Carolers in areas where your wonderful pets will be unable to get at them.
Repair of your Carolers
If you have a slight chip on the base, foot or face please bring it to the store and we will be glad to fix it for you. We have the paint from Byers’ Choice. If you cannot bring it in, try the following:
Shoe: If the shoe falls off, re-glue it with a hot glue gun. If it becomes discolored or chipped use a black felt tip marker.
Base: If the base is chipped, file the rough part slightly then use a dark green felt tip marker.
Face: This is slightly more difficult. If it is too bad, do not touch it. If the cheeks are faded, use a light makeup blush with a soft applicator. Lips can be rejuvenated with a very light nail polish.
If your Caroler is more than slightly damaged, write to Byers’ Choice. They usually will have you send it to them for repairs. I recommend enclosing a note with your name and address as well as what is damaged. I suggest you also pin a note with your name to the jacket. Byers’ Choice will repair it and return it to you. Presently there is no charge for this service.
To clean your Carolers, we suggest a suede brush. This removes all the dust and lint. Use a soft makeup brush on the face.
Sometimes the tissue under the ladies skirt becomes limp. Just remove it and wad up a new piece for a fresh look.
To smooth out wrinkle use a steam iron held just above the material. A hand held steamer works best. Do not go near the face with either. If the hair is messed you can smooth it with your hand and apply a light coating of hairspray.
